Why Nancy Pelosi Was Checking Her Apple Watch During State of the Union
Pelosi got the watch as a Christmas gift.
— -- Why was House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi fiddling with her Apple Watch during President Obama's last State of the Union address?
The California Democrat, who represents San Francisco, said at her news conference Wednesday that her watch, a Christmas gift, was reminding her to stay active.
"My watch was telling me to stand up for one minute!" Pelosi said with a laugh. "I didn't know that it was part of the advantage of having such a watch."
Pelosi, who said the watch had also started buzzing on a recent flight (when the seatbelt sign was on), joked about trying to trick the device during President Obama's speech.
"What I was trying to see was if you stand up to applaud, and you sit down and then you stand up to applaud again, if it's cumulative or you're starting all over again," she recalled.
According to Apple, the watch notifies wearers if they've been seated for almost an hour, to encourage more physical activity.
"It may sound like a small thing, but sitting less can improve your health in significant ways," Apple's website reads.
