Paul Ryan Calls Trump's Judge Comments 'Beyond the Pale'
Ryan is doubling down on his critique of Trump.
— -- House Speaker Paul Ryan doubled down on his critique of Donald Trump for his attack on a federal judge over his Mexican heritage, telling ABC’s George Stephanopoulos “that comment is beyond the pale.”
Earlier this week, Ryan condemned Trump’s comments questioning whether federal Judge Gonzalo Curiel could impartially preside over two civil lawsuits against Trump University. "Claiming a person can't do their job because of their race is sort of like the textbook definition of a racist comment," he said.
In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Trump said Republicans “have to get over” his comments about Curiel. He’s also suggested the criticism he’s received is the result of political correctness.
“That's not political correctness,” Ryan responded to Stephanopoulos in an interview today. “Suggesting that a person can't do their job because of their race or ethnicity, that's not a politically incorrect thing to do. That's just a wrong thing to say.”
