— -- Lynne Cheney's speech today in New York was her first overtly political speech at this kind at this type of forum, i.e., not at a fundraiser or a Lincoln Day Dinner or local Republican event.

Cheney spoke about education reform, No Child Left Behind and brought up Sen. John Kerry and his record in the context of those issues. The event was a Bush-Cheney '04 campaign speech coordinated by President Bush's campaign.

This speech comes on the heels of First Lady Laura Bush's Internet ad on education (released last Wednesday) and the campaign's efforts to make education the major theme of the week (the President had three events on education last week).

The event was sponsored by the the Manhattan Institute.
