Katie Couric Gets Engaged; Kate Upton Named 'Model of the Year'

Veteran broadcaster Katie Couric has some big news of her own: She's engaged.

Couric, 56, a special correspondent for ABC News and host of her own daytime talk show, became engaged over the weekend to longtime beau, financier John Molner, 50.

Molner proposed to Couric on the beach in East Hampton, N.Y., according to People magazine.

Couric's first husband, Jay Monahan, with whom she had two children, died in 1998 from colon cancer.

This won't surprise anyone who has passed a magazine rack in the past 12 months: Buxom blond beauty Kate Upton is to be named "Model of the Year" at the upcoming Style Awards.

Somewhat surprising, however, is the news that the awards, to be televised for the first time Sept. 14, will air on CNN, of all places.

Upton, 21, is a two-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model. She can also be seen here.

James Franco Gets Roasted

Hollywood's most famous slashy James Franco, as is in actor-slash-director-slash-producer-slash-artist-slash-professor, was roasted by a bevy of A-list comedians Monday night.

Comics, including Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen, ruthlessly and hilariously tore apart Franco who in addition to being an Oscar-nominated actor is pursuing a PhD at Yale.

"Look at me doing all the talking while you sit there doing nothing. I feel like I'm co-hosting the Oscars with you," quipped Rogen at Franco's expense.

USS Nimitz Steams Into Red Sea

News that the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz will head to the Red Sea awaiting possible orders to attack Syria has people searching for the supercarrier and its namesake.

Officials told ABC News on Sunday, the ship was on standby "just in case," President Obama ordered a strike.

The Nimitz, completed in 1975, is one of the largest military vessels in the world and was named for Adm. Chester Nimitz, who commanded allied fleets in the Pacific during WWII.

Microsoft to Take Over Nokia

Microsoft is buying out Nokia's smart phone division, merging two waning brands in the hopes of fending off powerhouses Apple and Google.

The $7.2 billion deal is Microsoft's latest attempt to diversify itself and transform from a company that primarily manufactures software.

The companies have worked together since 2011, when Nokia began producing phones that ran on Windows operating system. News of the merger sent Nokia stock prices soaring.

Manhunt for Shooter of 1-Year-old

Police in New York are scouring the streets of Brooklyn looking for a gunman accused of shooting a 1-year-old in the head.

Cops say they believe the shooter was trying to kill the baby's father, following a dispute. Authorities are offering a $12,000 reward for information leading to capture and arrest of Antiq Hennis's killer.
