— -- A long-anticipated fight between former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem has been added to UFC Fight Night on Dec. 19 in Orlando.

UFC officials announced the matchup Tuesday. The televised event will take place at Amway Center.

The two heavyweights have been in one another's crosshairs for years. They were scheduled to fight in May 2012 when dos Santos held the championship, but Overeem tested positive for an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio and was denied a fighter's license in Nevada.

Dos Santos (17-3) hasn't fought since last December, when he narrowly defeated Stipe Miocic via unanimous decision in Phoenix. The 31-year-old Brazilian is 11-2 in the UFC, with both losses coming to Cain Velasquez in title fights.

Fighting out of Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Overeem (39-14) holds an overall UFC record of 4-3. He stumbled badly in 2013, suffering knockout losses to Antonio Silva and Travis Browne, but has since rebounded with three wins in his past four contests.

Overeem is a former heavyweight champion in Strikeforce and DREAM. He is coming off a unanimous decision win against Roy Nelson at UFC 185 in March.

In addition to the heavyweight bout, the UFC Fight Night event will feature a lightweight title fight between Rafael Dos Anjos (24-7) and Donald Cerrone (28-6) as well as a recently announced lightweight contest between Nate Diaz (17-10) and Michael Johnson (16-9).
