Revis: New England is 'right place'

— -- Darrelle Revis said he had about 26 teams to consider after he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- and the New England Patriots quickly landed at the top of the list.

"It's basically about just winning," Revis said Monday during an introductory conference call. "I weighed my options and I just wanted to win.

"I felt like this is the right place. What better organization than the New England Patriots to be a part of?"

Revis officially signed a two-year, $32 million contract with the Patriots on Monday, although the deal is essentially for one year and $12 million because it includes a $25 million salary-cap charge in 2015.

Revis said he spent Monday touring the team's facility and also communicated with quarterback Tom Brady in the morning. The star cornerback didn't reveal what he spoke to Brady about, but called it a "great conversation."

The Patriots tweeted a photo of Revis touring the team's facility.

Revis also said he spoke with coach Bill Belichick about a March 2012 comment made on ESPN's "SportsCenter," when he called the longtime Patriots coach a "jerk."

"Me and Bill, we had a conversation about it and it's in the past," he said. "We're both moving forward and we're excited about working together and trying to win games. I think that's the biggest goal here -- to win games."

Revis described the whirlwind he experienced after the Buccaneers released him Wednesday, saying "everything happened so fast and I'm still trying to soak everything in."

After Revis' conference call, New England's other new cornerback, free agent Brandon Browner, said he looked forward to Revis pushing him in the same way that Richard Sherman did with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

Browner said he has been told the Patriots will play a lot of man coverage, which is a strong suit for him and Revis.

"I was also told we play a lot of man to man, which is my strong suit," he said. "From what I understand, they're going to have us matched up [a lot]."
