'Rugby War Goddess' Makes Impressive Tackles With Broken Nose
Georgia Page didn't let a broken nose stop her from playing.
— -- Rugby players are notorious for being a rough and tumble bunch. Georgia Page just showed the boys that they don't own the word "tough."
The sophomore rugby player from Australia took a tackle straight to the face in a semi-final game on May 30 at the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship in Philadelphia, and the recently posted video has since gone viral, said Blake Mannion, vice president of marketing at United World Sports.
The dramatic video shows Page going in for a tackle and grabbing her face in pain. She’s only down on the field briefly -- before she gets right back up and tackles two more players.
She spits blood back onto the field by the time she makes it back to her feet.
“She’s got to be one of the toughest women on the planet,” Mannion told ABC News today. “That’s some serious grit to get back into the fight like that.”
Page’s team -- Linwood University -- ended up defeating Notre Dame College and advancing to the final game on May 31. They lost to Penn State, but Page didn't let the broken nose stop her from playing.
“It happened so fast I don’t think the crowd understood the magnitude of the moment,” Mannion said.
“It truly speaks to the game of rugby where people are putting their body on the lines for their teammates,” he added.
The video of Page’s heroics has logged more than 1.3 million views on the USA Sevens Rugby Facebook page. Page's fans on the Internet have given her the memorable nickname of the "Rugby War Goddess."
