International Presidents Cup Team Roars Back

G A I N E S V I L L E, Va., Oct. 20 -- A day after being shut out inopening matches, the International team came roaring back today with some lopsided wins to get back in the Presidents Cup.

Michael Campbell and Retief Goosen won the first match of theday 4 and 3 over Hal Sutton and Paul Azinger, and the Internationalteam added a second point minutes later when Greg Norman and NickPrice blew out Jim Furyk and David Duval 6 and 5.

Still on the course, Tiger Woods and Notah Begay were 2 downthrough 12 holes to Carlos Franco and Shigeki Maruyama, while theonly U.S. pairing winning a match was David Love III and PhilMickelson, who were beating Ernie Els and Vijay Singh.

Early Pace

Five points were at stake in the morning best ball matches, andfive more in the afternoon alternate shot competition.

The International team trailed 5-0 going into the second day ofplay after losing all five alternate shot matches on Thursday. Butit was apparent early in todays matches that this would beanother day.

Campbell and Goosen set the pace early, and for much of themorning the International team was leading in four of the fivematches.

Its a huge boost to our confidence, Campbell said. It wasbig to the rest of the team behind us.
