Tiger Woods facing long odds in Las Vegas for Masters

— -- The betting public has stuck with Tiger Woods longer than most during his decline, but that certainly appears to be changing.

With Woods' status for next week's Masters in doubt, bets on the 14-time major champion have been few and far between -- even at career-long odds of 100-1. Woods is recovering from back surgery and has yet to play in a PGA Tour event this year.

Less than 1 percent of all bets at Caesars sportsbooks are on Woods, and even less of the total money is on the owner of four green jackets.

Jason Simbal, vice president of race and sports at Las Vegas book operator CG Technology, where Woods is 100-1, said his shop has taken 111 bets on Woods, averaging $30 per wager. That puts Woods out of the top 15 in terms of number of tickets. He is 20th in tickets at the Westgate SuperBook.

It's quite the contrast from recent lead-ups to the Masters. Woods was the largest liability the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook faced for last year's event and consistently has been one of the most popular bets, even while struggling with his health and off-the-course controversy.

Woods finished 17th last season, his best showing since 2013 at Augusta.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day are co-favorites at 7-1 at the SuperBook. Adam Scott and two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson are next at 12-1, followed by Rickie Fowler and Phil Mickelson, both at 15-1.

Fowler has attracted the most tickets at Caesars, while Day has attracted the most money. More bets have been placed on Mickelson at Station Casinos than any other golfer, while Watson has attracted the most money.

The Masters begins Thursday, with the first two rounds being broadcast on ESPN.
