DENVER -- Zach Malvik scored 20 points to lead Winona State past Nebraska-Omaha 64-58 Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division II North Central Regional. David Zellmann added 12 points, four in the final 1:31 after the teams were tied 58-58. Zellmann sank a jumper to put the Warriors (24-10) up 60-58 before Malvik had a steal and a breakaway layup. Zellmann sealed it with two free throws 42 seconds before the buzzer. The Mavericks (23-6) were outscored 30-21 during the second half after taking a 37-34 halftime lead. Randy Bland led Nebraska-Omaha with 19 points. John Smith added 11 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks for Winona State. The Warriors will face South Dakota on Sunday.
