— -- Nothing can sour a festive mood like a dead smartphone.

It's the most wonderful time of the year -- and the busiest for many of us.

Between shopping bags, presents and trays of cookies, it's easy to forget to also bring your smartphone charger with you.

Thankfully, there are a few quick hacks that will help save your smartphone battery survive as you flit between stores and parties.

Close the Apps You Aren't Using

Be selective about the ones you are using. Do you really need to check Facebook every 10 minutes?

Turn of Any Radios You Aren't Using

Not using Wi-Fi? Bluetooth? Turn them off!

Turn Down the Brightness of Your Screen

A bright screen can be a real power drain. Adjust the brightest to as low as your eyes can handle and also make sure the screen goes dark when your phone isn't being used.

Airplane Mode

If being able to take photos and videos is most important to you, then try saving some battery power by switching your smartphone to airplane mode. While you won't be able to make or receive messages and calls -- or go online -- you'll be able to snap away to your heart's content, making sure you capture all of those holiday memories.

Power Packs

Invest in a power pack, such as a Mophie. Plug it into your device and you should be good to go -- no outlet needed.
