Need Pinspiration? Pinterest's New Calendar Links to Holiday Boards
Pinterest launches holiday-themed boards from celebrities and companies.
Nov. 20, 2012 — -- Pinterest addicts have a busy few weeks ahead of them as they ready their holiday boards with images of gifts and holiday decor to get in the spirit. But the company is hoping to provide some inspiration -- or, you know, pinspiration.
The social media site, which is built around shareable and image-heavy bulletin boards, is launching its 30 Days of Pinspiration today at http://holidays.pinterest.com.
"The activity on Pinterest often reflects the season," Don Faul, head of operations at Pinterest, said. "This holiday season, we wanted to give back to our community by providing them with 30 days of Pinspiration. We're excited to see what pinners do with these inspiring ideas."
Every day for the next 30 days a calendar on the site will be refreshed with links to holiday-themed boards from celebrities, businesses, non-profits, etc. So who is behind the first day? ABC's very own Katie Couric. Katie's board will include her favorite Thanksgiving recipes and traditions. You'll be able to re-pin items from Katie's board to your own and comment on the board.
Katie said she has long been a fan of the social pinning site. "I'm always looking for ideas on Pinterest -- whether it's great recipes for my daughter who is a vegetarian, shoes, or good quotes to punch up a speech I'm working on," Couric told ABC News. "So this will be helpful for those of us looking for inspiration during one of the busiest times of the year. And I am sort of a social media addict, so it's exciting for us to be kicking off 30 Days of Pinspiration on our show."
Katie is going to be in good company for the rest of the month. Pinterest isn't revealing who is behind each of the upcoming 29 boards, but there will be ones from Paula Dean, Starbucks, and the U.S. Marine Corps. It also says that future boards will be helpful when it comes to cooking, decorating, and health tips. As Faul said, "There's a little something for everyone."
