Rovio Rejoices Over Billionth Angry Birds Download

Mobile game sensation
Angry Birds reached its 1 billionth download on Wednesday, according to Rovio.

"We are so thankful to all of our fans for their support, and we can't wait for them to see what we have coming up," said Rovio communications specialist Sini Matikainen in an email.

In 2009, Apple iOS users were the first to fling birds across their touch screens to crush green hard-to-reach pigs in the addictive game. Since then, Angry Birds has become one of the most profitable games in history.

The 1 billion count includes both free and paid versions of the video games on all platforms, covering all of the thematic variants: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Space.
