Man Fined for Annoying Texts to Ex-Girlfriend

It's a misdemeanor in Virginia to call someone's phone intending to annoy them.

CHESAPEAKE, Va., Sept. 26, 2007 — -- A Virginia Beach man has been convictedof sending annoying text messages to an ex-girlfriend.

A Chesapeake judge fined Brian Query $50, plus $72 for courtfees, last week. The charge carried a maximum fine of $500. It's amisdemeanor to call another person's telephone intending to annoythem.

In July, Query said he didn't know which text landed him in hotwater, but he knew the complaint came from a former girlfriend. Acharge against Query for profane language was dismissed, but he wasfined $252 for failing to show up in court.
