Feb. 23, 2011— -- Amazon's Prime is taking on Netflix. Subscribers to Amazon's premium membership are now able to watch nearly 6,000 movies and TV shows, at no extra charge. While Netflix's service has a lot more offerings, the video-rental site's streaming-only service costs nearly $100 a year.

If you have your old library card and an iPad, you can now wirelessly download e-books from your local library. It's all made possible through the Overdrive Media Console, which you can download for free in Apple's app store.

Katherine Boehret of the Wall Street Journal says, "The book automatically expires as soon as the due date arrives, so it could be seven, 14 or 21 days, depending on the library and right at that date the book is no longer accessible by the user."

Boehret also noted the app's availability and selection flaws.
