— -- Regional carrier Comair, a subsidiary of Delta, had the worst on-time rate among the nation's 19 largest airlines in May, with only 65.67% of its flights arriving within 15 minutes of schedule, according to data released today by the Transportation Department.

Company officials said that the delays were caused by significant weather and air traffic control issues in the Northeast: there were 22 days with significant delays at New York's JFK International Airport in May alone, for example. During the month, Comair operated 66% of its flights in the Northeast during May, the first month of its major move to that region.

Comair's corporate parent Delta Air Lines, which operates a hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport near where Comair is based, had a rate of 77.4% overall, ranking 14th.

Planes arriving at Cincinnati were on schedule 83.9% of the time in June, good for 11th-best among the nation's 31 busiest airports.
