Finding a budget hotel in a big city is, on the whole, pretty easy. Finding a budget hotel in a big city that is actually nice is quite another story. With a little research, however, traveler reviews can help you locate such gems. Using TripAdvisor, we found great hotels for less than $100* a night in nine cities around the world.

TripAdvisor travelers highly recommend Ariel House, which is "situated on a very quiet, tree-lined street, away from the city crowds." It's a particularly good fit for foodies, who will appreciate the extensive breakfast options and the delicious complimentary pastries offered in the lobby every afternoon ("my personal favorite was a blueberry cake drizzled in white chocolate," one traveler wrote).
"Okay, so you're not in Venice proper," one TripAdvisor traveler wrote, "but who cares when you've got a staff to care for you like they have at the Hotel Villa Costanza?" This hotel offers rooms with A/C and free WiFi, "fridge[s] with complimentary bottled water" and a "brilliant breakfast spread."
This small hotel (24 rooms) offers clean, budget-friendly rooms. One TripAdvisor traveler wrote, "The rooms are kept spotless. The unbelievable, very reasonable price is absolutely amazing!" And many praised the staff, who, in the words of another reviewer, "made everything easy with lots of good advice and extra service."
One TripAdvisor traveler called the Drury Inn & Suites-Orlando "a place you'd like to keep secret because it is an absolutely incredible deal!" The room rate includes breakfast and a happy hour with three free alcoholic drinks and unlimited soda, and food like "hot dogs, Mac-n-cheese, chicken strips, baked potatoes and nachos." Many travelers say frugal travelers could easily make dinner out of the happy-hour snacks, a big plus if you're on a budget.
"The rooms were spacious and comfortable and incredibly clean," wrote one TripAdvisor traveler who stayed at the Premier Inn London Ealing. Another was "truly amazed by the friendliness and courtesy of every single staff member."
And there are even some amenities that you'll usually only find in luxury hotels: as one traveler wrote, having a "choice of pillows [was] a nice touch."
"Although this is a very unassuming hotel, I found the amenities and features as good or better as more expensive hotels," wrote one TripAdvisor traveler who stayed at the Days Inn Chicago. Many reviewers liked the friendly staff, as one traveler wrote, "Everyone shows an interest in your visit." Some reviewers mentioned noise issues, but one pointed out that if this "bothers you, free earplugs are available from reception!"
You'll have to take a short Metro ride to visit the main tourist attractions in Paris if you stay at the Home Moderne, but for many TripAdvisor travelers, being in a residential neighborhood "feel[s] a little more like 'real' Paris." Many reviewers loved the very friendly staff and the "clean and peaceful" rooms.
OK, so you won't be right on the Strip, but many travelers believe the "very spacious and SUPER clean" rooms and great price make the La Quinta Inn & Suites Las Vegas Airport South an excellent option in Sin City. It's also pet-friendly.
This "very new and very nicely decorated hotel with very courteous service" offers budget-friendly yet luxurious rooms. Many travelers appreciated its proximity to the railway station and the extensive buffet breakfast ("the best I have ever seen," in the words of one TripAdvisor traveler).
