Caroline Karimi: Los Angeles Teen Went Missing on Way to Volunteer Job at Hospital

Police said teen's family found it "highly unusual" she didn't show up for job.

July 31, 2013 — -- A search is underway in Los Angeles today for a missing teen who never made it to her volunteer job at a hospital.

The family of Caroline Karimi, 18, said it was "highly unusual" when the teen did not show up for her volunteer job at the San Gabriel Valley Medical Center on Monday, Los Angeles police said.

The teen was last seen on surveillance video from Monday leaving a Vons supermarket before police said she was scheduled to work at her volunteer job.

Karimi's family told police they last saw her at the family's West Los Angeles home at 7 a.m. Monday.

She had been booked on a Wednesday morning flight to Boston for a family gathering, police said.

Karimi is 5-foot-5 and weighs about 135 pounds, according to police. She is described as having brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a a dark-blue hospital shirt, white pants and orange-and-blue shoes.

Karimi was driving a green 2007 Toyota Prius with California license plate number 5YVV475.
