— -- A 6-week-old puppy is back in the arms of its 4-year-old owner today after a harrowing morning trapped in a six-foot deep hole in near an Atlanta-area apartment building.

More than a dozen DeKalb County firefighters and DeKalb County Water Department workers came to the rescue of the pup, which was stuck in a PVC pipe in the hole for several hours, authorities said.

The Pekingese-Shitzu mix named Toshi had been a birthday gift for Sahri Destin. The two had been taking walk this morning when Toshi fell into the hole, according to county officials.

The county even brought in an excavator to help get to the pup. They were forced to shut off water to the area when the pipe ruptured. It took a few hours and a lot of digging before firefighters were able to get in the hole and pull the dog out.

Cheers erupted from the crowd as the whimpering puppy was handed over to its tearful owner.

“I got my present back,” exclaimed Shari, hugging him.

When she declared “He’s cold,” firefighters responded by wrapping him in a blanket.

Toshi appears to be in good condition after his ordeal.
