Explosion Rocks Indianapolis Apartment; 6 Hurt

Residents reported a distinct smell prior to the blast.

May 16, 2014— -- An explosion rocked an Indianapolis apartment complex Thursday, sending at least six people to the hospital – and 23 people out of their homes.

The explosion happened after 10 p.m. inside a two-story building at the Pangea Riverside Apartments.

Four college students, who all reported a strange smell, were inside the townhome when the explosion happened, according to a news release from the Indianapolis Fire Department. A mother and daughter in an adjacent unit were also injured.

None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening, and damage is estimated at $250,000.
