Terminal at Newark Airport Evacuated After Electrical Fire Breaks Out
Fire was first reported in a storage room early Monday morning.
— -- A fire broke out in the Delta Airlines section of Terminal B at Newark Liberty Airport this morning, according to Port Authority officials.
Officials say the electrical fire broke out in the ceiling, near the boiler room and sent plumes of heavy smoke throughout the terminal. Firefighters had to take down a portion of the ceiling in that section to tackle the flames.
It was unclear whether planes that were slated for that terminal had to move to another gate.
The terminal was evacuated while the smoke cleared
Fire crews had been called to extinguish the flames in the same terminal earlier this morning, but were then called back when the flames started up again.
Despite the fire, Port Authority said they expect mostly normal service to resume this morning.
