— -- The man who brandished a gun outside the White House and was shot by a Secret Service officer, allegedly said “I came here to shoot people,” according to court documents.

Jesse Olivieri, charged with a single count of resisting officers with a dangerous weapon, remains hospitalized, recovering from a single gunshot wound. He is expected to make a court appearance at a later date.

A criminal complaint filed in federal court Friday, provides new details of the incident on May 20.

According to the document, one witness reported hearing a loud “pop” after walking past a parked Toyota Camry along 1600 Constitution Ave., near the White House.

The witness had seen a man sitting in the driver’s seat of the car, the document says. After turning around, the witness saw the same man, later identified as Olivieri, holding a sliver handgun with a long barrel in his right hand moving quickly toward the White House, according to the complaint.

A spent shell casing was later found by investigators on Constitution Avenue near the car, but it is unclear if an apparent shot was fired in the direction of the White House.

After being confronted by uniformed Secret Service officers, an agent shot Olivieri after he allegedly refused to obey commands to halt and drop his weapon.

After being shot, a Secret Service officer asked the suspect why he came to the White House. "I came here to shoot people," Olivieri allegedly said.

Authorities recovered a silver Ruger Mark 2 Target .22 caliber semiautomatic handgun from Olivieri. The gun, which is designed to be used with a 10-round magazine was found with 9 rounds of ammunition when it was taken by investigators.

Olivieri could face 20 years in prison if convicted.
