Halloween Treats Surprise Animals at Chicago Zoo
Bears, gorillas and hippos get pumpkins stuffed with treats.
— -- Halloween treats were handed out today at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, and the results were unbearably cute.
Pumpkins stuffed or decorated with surprise treats like raisins and peanut butter were distributed to the zoo's grizzly, polar and sloth bears. The hippo and lowland gorillas also got the prized pumpkins, according to ABC News affiliate WLS.
The animals had different ways of enjoying their holiday treats from standing on them to smash them open, prying them apart or devouring them whole.
Staff members, as part of the Chicago Zoological Society's Center for Science of Animal Welfare, try to find ways to keep the animals interested and healthy and one way is surprise holiday treats.
