Navy Veteran Pulls Woman Out of RV Engulfed in Flames
It happened in the Pocono Mountains.
— -- A Navy veteran rescued a woman from a burning RV that left wreckage he described as being like a "war zone."
Christopher Chmielnicki sprang into action once he learned a woman was inside the RV as it burned on Route 611 in Mount Pocono on Friday, ABC affiliate WNEP-TV reports.
“I ran inside and it was so toxic, I went to my knees I couldn't see in front of me,” Chmielnicki said. “Then finally I felt her leg. The woman was unconscious, so I picked her up and dragged her all the way to the front of the RV."
Chmielnicki was later taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, reports WNEP-TV. While there, he met with the woman he pulled out of the RV.
"Just standing outside the door and hearing the tears going back and forth was, it was tough," said his fiance Nicole Palmer. "I'm so proud of him."
