Newly Released September 11 Photos Show Vice President Cheney at White House
On 9/11, it was Cheney who first manned the Emergency Operations Center.
— -- Photos from Sept. 11, 2001, just released by the U.S. National Archives, capture the raw emotions of the country's leaders as they began to respond to the four terror attacks that were unfolding on U.S. soil, from the World Trade Center, to the Pentagon, to a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
When the first two planes hit the World Trade Center in New York, President Bush was in Florida. So it was Vice President Cheney who first manned the President's Emergency Operations Center at the White House.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
The Flickr album, called "Vice President Cheney on September 11, 2001," was released by the National Archives in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.
