Ohio Police Capture Escaped Inmate

— -- Ohio Highway State Patrol confirms to ABC News that escaped inmate John Modie has been arrested in Nelsonville late Monday evening.
The Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections said Modie, 58, was captured without incident in Nelsonville, Ohio, by a joint task force at 10:50 p.m. Eastern Time.
This comes after Ohio prison officials confirmed Monday morning that Modie was found to be missing from the Hocking Unit of the Southeastern Correctional Complex in Nelsonville during the 11:00 p.m. count of inmates Sunday night.
The Pike County sheriff issued a bulletin that Modie was considered armed and dangerous.
"Considering the storms that passed throughout the night we suspect the escapee may seek shelter," said Warden Brian Book.
Authorities had put out a bulletin that Modie may have been driving with two women in a gold Jeep Grand Cherokee and that he may have cuts from razor wire.
The escape caused Hocking College, about 2 miles from the prison, to close its nearby campuses on Monday -- leaving students and residents on high alert. Officials on campus sent out an alert for those on campus to stay indoors and report any suspicious activity to college police. The school plans to reopen Tuesday.
The corrections department says Modie was convicted of murder in the Cleveland slaying of a woman in 2003 and is serving a sentence of 18 years to life for murder, robbery and escape charges.
Cleveland.com reported that Modie was accused of beating to death Ucianna Ortiz at his Cleveland home in October 2002 and then dumped her body along an interstate in the city.
Days after the body was found, Modie was arrested in Texas while driving a car he had stolen from someone else in Cleveland. A coroner ruled that Ortiz died from blunt trauma to the head.
Modie who was accused of walking away from the Cuyahoga County jail following his arrest, pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to prison in December 2003.
