  • Hunt was also a popular cheerleader for her high school in Sebastian, Fla. She is pictured here on the right with another cheerleader in August 2012, the first semester of her senior year, getting ready for a pep rally. Hunt was voted by her class as "Most School Spirit."

  • Hunt was 18 when she began dating her then 14-year-old freshman girlfriend, seen here, who played with her on the same basketball team. "I would say, we had a really close relationship," Hunt told "20/20." "We told each other everything." Their relationship became sexual with the two having encounters in the school bathroom and the younger girl sneaking out of her house.

  • Rumors of Hunt and the freshman dating eventually reached the younger girl's parents, who reported it to authorities. Police then arrested Hunt, who, when interrogated, admitted to having a sexual relationship with the minor. Hunt, after 24 hours in county jail, was released on bail, on the condition that she have no contact with the younger girl.

  • The state attorney charged Hunt with two counts of lewd or lascivious battery of a child. Hunt's mother Kelley Hunt Smith, pictured here in May 2013 with Hunt, and her father Steve Hunt led the "Free Kate" campaign, claiming the prosecutor and the younger girl's family were motivated in part by an anti-gay bias.

  • In May 2013, prosecutors offered Hunt a plea deal, which she rejected, because she insisted she did nothing wrong and wanted a trial to prove her innocence. Late in June, Hunt, pictured here in her graduation gown with her family, was able to walk with her class at graduation despite being expelled from school months earlier.

  • Yet, in mid-August 2013 after her 19th birthday, Hunt went against the judge's no contact order and exchanged 20,000 text messages, including nude photos, with her girlfriend. Hunt is seen here at a hearing at Indian River County courthouse in Vero Beach, Fla.

  • A judge ordered Hunt to wait out the rest of her time before trial in the county jail. In an exclusive jailhouse interview with ABC News' Matt Gutman in October 2013, Hunt said, "I needed closure," Hunt said of violating the no contact order. "I was ... forced to stop talking and forced to stop dating. ... I just got wrapped up again."

  • Ultimately, there was no trial for Hunt, who accepted a plea deal in October 2013 that would keep her in jail for four months, plus two years of house arrest and probation. Hunt is seen here with her mom and step-mom, Marie Hunt, shortly after her release from jail in December 2013.

  • After her release, Hunt posted this photo in February 2014 greeting her supporters in her Facebook group, called "Kate's Fight." She wears an ankle bracelet monitoring her movements and has a parole officer. "As long as I'm home with my family ... then I think I'll be okay," Hunt said in a recent interview with "20/20."

  • Hunt has also found happiness again with her new girlfriend, L.T., the two pictured here together in January 2014. "Now I just want to put it all behind me," Hunt said. "I want to do the right thing, and then get it over with, so I can move on with my life."
