Body Believed to Be Missing California Girl Found in Dumpster

— -- Police in California believe they have found the body of an 8-year-old girl who vanished over the weekend.

The body was found in a dumpster at the Tannery Arts Center Monday night, the same housing unit where Madyson Middleton was reported missing the night before, said Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel. While the body hasn't been positively identified, "we are fairly confident at this point it is Madyson Middleton," he said.

A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody for questioning, Vogel said. Police were obtaining a search warrant for an apartment at the complex, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department.

"It's horrible. It's awful. It's heart-breaking," Vogel said.
