Pregnant Woman Critical After She and Baby Are Hit by Bullet

— -- A pregnant Baltimore woman is in critical condition after she was shot early Monday morning, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

Police said the bullet struck the woman's lower abdomen, hitting the baby in the womb. The woman, 21, was transported to a local hospital where doctors delivered the baby.

"Both the victim and her child are in critical but stable condition," police said in a statement.

Jeremy Silbert, a spokesperson for the BPD, said the investigation is ongoing.

There have been 293 non-fatal shootings in Baltimore so far this year, up from 260 this time last year, Silbert said.

Baltimore City Police spokesperson Donny Moses told local ABC News affiliate WMAR in Baltimore, "At this point we don't have any information about suspects, it remains a mystery.”
