Southwest Jet Lands at Wrong Airport
No emergency was declared and all passengers were safe.
Jan. 12, 2014— -- A Southwest Airlines jet carrying 124 passengers landed at the wrong airport in Branson, Mo., Sunday, seven miles from its intended destination.
The FAA is investigating what happened that made the plane land at Taney County airport rather than the Branson airport.
No emergency was declared by the flight, according to both the FAA and Southwest, though the airline offered no explanation of why the plane did not land where it was supposed to.
The Boeing 737-700 carried 124 passengers and a crew of five and was operating as a scheduled flight from Chicago Midway to Branson. It landed safely.
"Our ground crew from the Branson airport has arrived at the airport to take care of our Customers and their baggage," Southwest said in a statement released tonight. "The landing was uneventful, and all Customers and Crew are safe."
