St. Louis Rams' Stedman Bailey Shot in the Head, in Critical Condition
Bailey was in a vehicle when he was shot twice in the head.
— -- St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was shot in the head twice while in a vehicle Tuesday and is in a critical condition in Miami, a source told Josina Anderson of ESPN.
The Rams issued an official statement, saying, "We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."
Bailey is in the intensive-care unit of a Florida hospital and will have surgery today, the source said.
The driver of the car was shot multiple times while shielding children who were also in the car, according to the source. The driver is in surgery and his injuries are much more serious, the source said.
Bailey, 25, is serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. He is eligible to return after Week 14.
Bailey, a third-round pick in his third season out of West Virginia, has 12 catches for 182 yards.
The Miami Police Department did not immediately return ABC News’ calls for comment.
