She Knew He Was Gay

April 23, 2007 — -- Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey's wife, Dina Matos McGreevey, apparently knew that her husband was gay well before he made it public in a press conference in August 2004, according to a report published today in the New York Post.

Until now both McGreeveys have maintained that Matos found out about her husband's sexual orientation the same day he announced it to the press in a press conference. But according to several anonymous sources in the New York Post, Matos was aware of the fact that her husband was gay before his public announcement.

McGreevey left office in November 2004 after he admitted to having an affair with a male employee. Matos filed for divorce in February 2005, and a fight for custody and visitation rights for their 5-year-old daughter Jacqueline ensued.

The two are still involved in a nasty divorce battle. In her latest divorce filing, Matos claimed that the young girl was exposed to erotic artwork at the eight-bedroom mansion that her estranged husband shares with his partner Mark O'Donnell. Matos wants to prevent Jacqueline from seeing the "life-size photograph of a nude male model" that McGreevey took down from his master bedroom after she threatened to take away his visitation rights.

Matos, who has denied she is homophobic, also objected to Jacqueline sharing a bed with McGreevey and O'Donnell, according to The Associated Press.

The New York Daily News obtained a copy of Matos' memoir, "Silent Partner," which is set to be released on May 1. The newspaper reports that Matos writes about being pushed around by her husband.

In her book, the newspaper report says, Matos writes that her husband said she had to be composed like Jackie Kennedy during the press conference in which he admitted to having an affair with a male employee. She also claims that McGreevey asked her to move out of the governor's mansion, and that she would "look like white trash" if she stayed until the last minute.
