U.S. Military Deaths in War With Iraq

• Lance Cpl. Matthew R. Smith, 20, of Anderson, Ind., killed in a vehicle accident in Kuwait when the vehicle he was driving struck a parked trailer.

• Lance Cpl. Cedric E. Bruns, 22, of Vancouver, Wash., killed when the truck he was driving was struck by a logistics vehicle system, May 9.

• Chief Warrant Officer Brian K. Van Dusen, 39, of Columbus, Ohio, killed near Samarrah, Iraq, while onboard an UH-60 air medical helicopter that crashed in the Tigris River, May 9.

• Chief Warrant Officer Hans N. Gukeisen, 31, of Lead, S.D., killed near Samarrah, Iraq, while onboard an UH-60 air medical helicopter that crashed in the Tigris River, May 9.

• Cpl. Richard P. Carl, 26, of King Hill, Idaho, killed near Samarrah, Iraq, while onboard an UH-60 air medical helicopter that crashed in the Tigris River, May 9.

• Pfc. Marlin T. Rockhold, 23, of Hamilton, Ohio, killed in Iraq while directing traffic when he was struck by a sniper's bullet, May 8.

• Pvt. Jason L. Deibler, 20, of Coeburn, Va., killed in Kuwait by a noncombat weapon discharge, May 4.

• Sgt. Sean C. Reynolds, 25, of East Lansing, Mich., killed in Iraq. He was climbing a ladder when he fell, causing his M4 rifle to accidentally discharge, May 3.

• Pfc. Jesse A. Givens, 34, of Springfield, Mo., killed in Al Habbaniyah, Iraq, while parked in an M-1 main battle tank alongside the bank of the Euphrates River, May 1. The riverbank gave way resulting in the tank falling into the river.

• Army Sgt. Joe J. Garza, 43, of Robstown, Texas, killed in a vehicle accident in Baghdad, Iraq, April 28.

• Army Spc. Narson B. Sullivan, 21, of North Brunswick, N.J., killed by a noncombat weapon discharge in Iraq, April 25.

• Army 1st Lt. Osbaldo Orozco, 26, of Delano, Calif., died when his vehicle rolled over while traveling through rough terrain in Iraq, April 25.

• Army Sgt. Troy David Jenkins, 25, of Ridgecrest, Calif., died at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, from wounds received in action in Iraq, April 24.

• Marine Chief Warrant Officer Andrew Todd Arnold, 30, of Spring, Texas, killed when a rocket-propelled grenade launcher malfunctioned on a firing range near the city of Al Kut, Iraq, April 22.

• Marine Chief Warrant Officer Robert William Channell Jr., 36, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., killed when a rocket-propelled grenade launcher malfunctioned on a firing range near the city of Al Kut, Iraq, April 22.

• Marine Lance Cpl. Alan Dinh Lam, 19, of Snow Camp, N.C., killed when a rocket-propelled grenade launcher malfunctioned on a firing range near the city of Al Kut, Iraq, April 22.

• Army Spc. Roy Russell Buckley, 24, of Portage, Ind., killed in a vehicle accident while traveling in a convoy in Iraq, April 22.

• Army Cpl. John T. Rivero, 23, of Gainesville, Fla., killed when a Humvee turned over in western Iraq, April 17.

• Marine Cpl. Jason David Mileo, 20, of Centreville, Md., shot and killed after being mistaken for an enemy soldier in the vicinity of Baghdad, April 14.

• Army Spc. Thomas A. Foley III, 23, of Dresden, Tenn., killed by a grenade explosion inside his vehicle in Iraq, April 14.

• Army Pfc. John E. Brown, 21, of Troy, Ala., killed by a grenade explosion inside his vehicle in Iraq, April 14.

• Army Pfc. Joseph P. Mayek, 20, of Rock Springs, Wyo., died after being struck by an armor-piercing round discharged from a U.S. M2 Bradley fighting vehicle, April 14.
