1. Mom Says She Lost Sight in One Eye Just 12 Hours After Mud Run

A Texas mom is hoping to have her sight restored after a bacterial infection left her with an irreparably damaged cornea.

Brittany Williams,23, took part in a mud run in Dallas on June 7 and said that after the race she felt that something was in her eye. She flushed her eye out and took Tylenol, but 12 hours later she was horrified to find she could not see out of one eye.

"I woke up and my eye was white and you couldn’t see out of it," Williams recalled. She initially stayed calm until her boyfriend saw her eye and immediately called doctors for help.

"I could tell by my fiancé's reaction … he’s in the medical field and started to losing it a little bit," she recalled. "I knew at that point something was really wrong."

2. North Charleston Sgt. Shannon Dildine Fired for Wearing Confederate Flag Boxer Shorts

A North Charleston police officer was axed after allegedly posting a picture to his Facebook page showing wearing nothing but Confederate flag underwear and a smile, according to documents and a report.

The incident comes at a tumultuous time for the department and an uproar over the Confederate flag after a racially motivated shooting at a historically black church in Charleston that left 9 dead.

Sgt. Shannon Dildine allegedly posted the photo several days ago and the image has since gained attention as it circulated on social media, according to ABC News Affiliate WCIV.

3. Plane Carrying Cruise Passengers Crashes in Alaska, 9 Dead

A plane carrying nine people, including several from a cruise ship, crashed on the side of a mountain in Alaska Thursday, killing everyone on board, officials said.

Rescuers discovered the wreck of the Promech Air float plane hours after it went missing Thursday afternoon about 300 miles south of Juneau.

Aboard the plane were eight passengers on the MS Westerdam, a sightseeing ship visiting Ketchikan, according to Holland America Lines, which was operating the cruise. There was also a pilot aboard the plane, a DeHavilland DHC-3 Otter, the AP said.

5. 'Blues Brothers' 35th Anniversary: Dan Aykroyd Shares Memories From Set

"The Blues Brothers" is a timeless classic that still holds up more than three and a half decades after the film hit theaters in June 1980, to the delight of Dan Aykroyd.

Aykroyd admits he's not the type of acting legend who craves celebration or needs his iconic work to be recognized in front of a live audience. But the actor, 62, who's starred in too many hit movies to count, will host a screening of "The Blues Brothers" for the film's 35th anniversary at the St. Lawrence International Film Festival in late October.

Aykroyd spoke to ABC News about the special screening and his favorite memories of "The Blue Brothers."
