The University of Connecticut declared an "emergency condition" this morning following the stabbing death Saturday night of a starting player on the school's football team.
Jasper Howard, a cornerback for the Connecticut Huskies, was stabbed in a fight following a school dance Saturday and died early today, according to the Hartford Courant newspaper.
The school posted an emergency warning on its Web site saying no suspect had been caught.
"In the early morning hours of 10.18.09, a fight and stabbing occurred near Hillside Rd in the center of Storrs campus," read the warning. "The perpetrator is still at large, whereabouts unknown."
The Courant quoted police as saying a second victim was stabbed in the fight. Both victims were taken to Windham Community Memorial Hospital.
Twenty-year-old Howard, a native of Miami, played in UConn's 38-25 win against Louisville on Saturday.
Police are actively investigating this incident and anyone with information was asked to contact the campus police at 860-486-4800.
