This is a special room. Federal authorities have arrested and charged a friend of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects -- obstructing their investigation. Officers entered his apartment building early this morning they say that he lied about his friendship with -- -- -- -- Brothers and what he knew about their alleged role. And that attack and when I'm -- Cutler in New York -- -- ABC news digital special report as -- -- or -- trial is nearing. Investigators are moving quickly to secure witnesses and potential co conspirators. Though there has been no suggestion. That -- rules on -- Tonya knew anything about the bombings. Before they took place with the latest on the developments now this Friday morning that might bring an ABC's Eric deters -- on this and -- first upset this up for us what is this 23. And broadly -- he's accused of obstructing the investigation into the Boston Marathon attacks this is somebody who had been living in Massachusetts illegally. A moving from Kurdistan and twenties and been working as a cab driver among other odd jobs and he'd befriended Hamlin and -- hearts are nine. And on the day of the marathon attacks about forty minutes after those pressure -- bombs went off near the finish line. Of the Boston Marathon he called up tenements and -- said do you want to have dinner. And later that evening and -- -- I have Brothers and this defendant had dinner we don't know what they discussed but it was likely that they. Had discussed something about the rationale perhaps. For -- marathon attacks because according to prosecutors. The the men shared a common ideology and a philosophical. Justification. For violence -- just to be clear on this he is not being charged with taking part in these bombings. But do we know -- -- prosecutors that the tip their hat that he may have had any prior knowledge about the plot. None whatsoever there is no evidence that he had any advanced word of the marathon -- -- that he participated. In any way and it's a matter fact for a little while he was expressing his support for what had been done. But then came to -- some of that support a little bit later on. And after he had been talking to temperaments -- and I have on the phone trying to -- -- hearts are nine of eventually and you remember this stand. The FBI released photos of what -- then known as suspect one. And suspect number two once he saw those photos he. Began to talk with others that he knew -- about that's our knives and eventually went to local police and -- I know these guys. But according to federal prosecutors he did not disclose the full extent of his relationship with -- our knives and and did not disclose. What he knew they believed in their head about Jihad. One point the talents are not have and this defendant went hiking in New Hampshire according to to court records that they wanted to train like and praise. The Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. And so there was this shared ideology federal prosecutors believe that he never disclosed it to local police -- the FBI. -- -- aside from that the what do we know about the extent of their relationship how far back to these guys know each other according to prosecutors. It's not clear today it's a very deep relationship -- be shared some some common homeland terrain but but he had only moved to Massachusetts and 2010 and so it was sometime after 2010. When these men men. But apparently they had been close enough to go hiking to talk about the religious police perhaps to go to the same mosque in and and talk about their religion in depth. And so if anyone had known contaminants are -- have been and what he believed perhaps it was this defended. But we don't know the substance of their conversations other -- on that one hike in New Hampshire. They they they talked about. Raising the Mujahedeen. Are putting due to the indictment. -- last Eric froehlich -- go and ask you about -- -- prosecutors fear that there could be any lingering threats associated with this point three year old. They don't believe so he was arrested at about 6 AM. At his residence in Quincy Massachusetts just south of Boston. There was no no. -- and and and it doesn't seem to be a threat now. Our sources tell us that he the FBI has been watching him for a number of months now. And and in the end date they come up with -- simple obstruction charge so it doesn't appear as if he himself opposes any direct threat and again he had no involvement. According to prosecutors.
