Arizona Immigration Debate: Do You Support or Oppose the State's New Law?

April 27, 2010— -- The debate over Arizona's new immigration law raged on today, as politicians, legal experts, and the pubilc weighed in with their support or opposition.
Arizona Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said he has "no intention of complying" with the new law, calling it a "national embarrassment."
Opposition rallies were held in at least three cities around the country today, and some politicians called for a boycott of Arizona's tourism -- including an Arizona congressman.
"We are calling on businesses and organizations not to bring their conventions to Arizona until it recognizes civil rights and the meaning of due process," said Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Arizona).
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer defended the law today, saying that she is not worried about a backlash against the law or a drop in business for the state.
Brewer said that companies bringing business to the state "want to know we have a safe and secure environment."
According to a Rasmussen poll, some 70 percent of state residents agree with the Governor, giving their support to the legislation.
