
David Muir was named anchor of "World News Saturday" and co-anchor of "Primetime" in March 2007. In addition to these roles, he reports for all ABC News broadcasts and platforms, including "World News with Charles Gibson," "Good Morning America," "20/20," and "Nightline." He is also a substitute anchor for "World News with Charles Gibson."
Muir joined ABC News in August 2003 as anchor of the overnight program "World News Now" and quickly moved on to become one of the network's lead correspondents on several major domestic and international stories. Muir, a multiple Emmy-award winning correspondent, has reported from China, the Middle East, South America, Eastern Europe, South Africa, and throughout the United States.
During the 2008 presidential election, he was a part of the network's "Vote 2008" coverage, reporting and anchoring from Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and reporting from Ohio on Election Night.
Overseas, in August 2008, Muir reported from China on the aftermath of the earthquake in Sichuan province. He also anchored and reported from the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. In June 2007, Muir traveled to Gaza to cover the Hamas coup, reporting from inside the Gaza Strip. He also reported from the Israeli-Lebanon border in August 2006 to cover the Israeli war with Hezbollah.
In August 2007, Muir was sent to Peru to cover the worst earthquake in that country in more than 35 years. And in March 2008, he reported from Ukraine more than two decades after the Chernobyl nuclear accident.
Domestically, he has covered a number of high-profile stories. In April 2007, he reported from Virginia Tech on the shootings that terrorized the campus, and in October 2006, he was on the scene of the Amish schoolhouse shootings in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In August 2005, Muir was inside the New Orleans Superdome as Hurricane Katrina hit and stayed in that battered city to cover the unfolding crisis. His reports for "World News," "Primetime," and "20/20" revealed the deteriorating conditions inside the Convention Center and Charity Hospital.
