The Conversation: Times Square Bomb Plot

May 3, 2010— -- Officials are still trying to determine who drove an SUV into Times Square on Saturday evening, loaded with propane, fertilizer and other material intended to detonate with thousands of people nearby.

The New York City Police Department has released video of a white male in his 40s, looking back toward the car and removing a dark-colored sweatshirt. This morning on "Good Morning America," New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg cautioned that the man is only a "person of interest," but said he was confident the perpetrator will be caught.

"There's a high probability we will find out who did this," said Bloomberg. "There's a lot of evidence."

There are simliarities between the Times Square bomb and devices used by Al Qaeda in attacks in Europe in recent years. A Pakistani Taliban group has claimed responsibility for the failed bombing, but officials say there's little reason to believe the claim.

So two days after the explosives-laden SUV paralyzed midtown Manhattan, it's still a mystery as to who is responsbile and the motivation for planning the attack. In today's Conversation, ABC's Brian Ross details the latest on the investigation into the Times Square bomb plot.
