Moving on tonight, there's a new headline about how much foot is wasted in this country. Here's the big number. 40% of all food, wasted. A lot of it in our own kitchens. So tonight abc's amy robach is back in the kitchen with cameras to show us how we're squandering food and a lot of money. The dickinsons like families all over america are throwing away food filling up garbage cans while emptying their checkbooks. What would you say yo weekly food bill is? It's probably around $300. All in? Yeah, give or take. So you're at $1200 to -- $1400. 1400-1500 month. They're part of a disturbing trends. Americans today waste twice as much food as four decades ago. We followed them for an entire week, grocery shopping, making dinner, to see what they bought, what they used and, what what they threw away. What we found they were buying more than they could eat, throwing ae untouched vegetables, serving up big portions and tossing what was left on the plate. Don't feel bad because this is right on par with the rest of america,ou threw out 13 pounds of food in a week. Oh, my god. Holy cow. That's pretty ridiculous. Reporter:4,000 a year they could put back in their pocket instead of in the trash. The study pound the average family throws out 20 pounds of food every month. It found that uneaten food now rivals paper, plastic, and other trash as the number one material found in land fills in this country. Uneaten food? Uneaten food.
