We begin with breaking developments near St. Louis Missouri. The police chief releasing the name of the police officer involved in the shooting after so much anger was being withheld. Newout rage erupted. Police rel ssedomething else. These images that they believe could show Michael brown, the shooting victim involved in a store robbery earlier that day. We have been seeing these pictures all work. Protesters and standoffs with police. The smoke from the tear gas filling the streets. Do these new developments have that city back on edge? ABC's Steve osunsami on the ground again tonight. Reporter: The name of that office officer is what people wanted to hear. Police painted a different picture of the ten age victim. Hands up. Everything about this is a coverup. The officer involved in the shooting of Michael brown was Darren Wilson. Reporter: It took them nearly a week and the fighting over the incident nearly tore this city in two. Ferguson city police are sharing that it was 28-year-old police officer Darren Wilson who shot and killed this unarmed black teenager Saturday afternoon. He's been a police officer for six years. Has had no disciplinary action taken against him. Reporter: At this family home the families next door say he left the area last week. Police didn't give us a picture but sharing this one. They tell us that's Michael brown, the young man officer killed in the middle of what police called a strong arm robbery 15 minutes before the shooting. The surveillance video from three cameras in this liquor store show him in the same red ball cap and white t-shirt police say he was wearing when he was killed. Grabbing boxes of cigars and shoving the manager who went after brown and his friend. Johnson's lawyer is confirming the robbery. Police said at the time of the shooting Wilson didn't know the teen was a suspect but in the initial police report officer Wilson said he was given a description of a black male in a white t-shirt. Many black families are refusing to believe the store. I can be unarmed. They going to shoot me. Say I thought I tried to rob somebody. It's crazy. Reporter: Even if it's true the officer had no right to shoot the young man dead. Ron Johnson made such a different walking side by side with protesters and was caught off guard. I think there was concerns references the release of the information and the videotape. I'm going to have some conversations with the police chief shortly. Reporter: The teen's family says they are beyond outraged. Whatever took place there had nothing to do with an individual getting down on his hands and knees raising his hands in the air and saying don't shoot. Reporter: They're calling this a character assassination. The police say their officer is in a safe police tonight. David. You have been there in Ferguson all week bringing us images from scenes like this one from police facing off with protesters and the state police captain taking charge instead of hugging the protesters. Where do things stand? Reporter: Well, right now we're expecting of course, people to be out here through the night and we're also really sort of hopeful it will remain quiet as it was last night. The police saying you can get a lot more done through peace and understanding. David.
