Reporter: The extremist fighters are now edging closer to the capital and being met with firepower. There is resistance and small victories. Trying to fight back, battling to control the biggest oil refinery and vowing tonight to defend Baghdad. Iraqi soldiers fighting to uphold their shia dominated government from the Sunni militants. A division tearing this nation apart and this commander says there is only one sluice. Just one language now. This language. Reporter: Every vehicle has been bought, every soldier has been trained, and every weapon has been supplied using U.S. Taxpayers dollars.
