And finally tonight, we're going to show you an irresistible force being called into action. Helping American heroes return home and their magic touch is hitting the heart. ABC's Steve osunsami. Reporter: We traveled to fort brag to search forfá the lieutenant colonel we heard so much about who is doing wonders to come in and stick with counseling. All of 5 years old and a German shepherd named Lexi helping lawyers like staff sergeant Dennis swols. The first time I killed someone, I cried. I never went and got help. I thought it was a natural thing. Reporter: After seven tours he's now fighting posttraumatic stress disorder. It took the friendship of these military therapy dogs to get him past his pride and in the door. You think she's made a difference? Without a doubt. I could tellok a story I could cry. I could do anything and she's not going to judge me. Reporter: Today there are 2,5,000 dogs trained in the armed services but the first to help soldiers heal their minds. They get started as puppies learning to sense a soldier's distress. These dogs are able to detect through skrebt you're emotional state. Reporter: The work so important the military gives these dogs a rank. The one a one star general. It could get them through the hard stuff so they can keep working through their issues.
