in that coaching controversy at rutgers. You'll remember the coach and the athletic director ousted after that bad behavior caught on tape. Now comes new questions about the woman brought in to help fix it all. Allegations of mistreatment coming to light following a newspaper report. Even governor chris christie tonight demanding answers. Abc's gio benitez is on the case. I'm incredibly happy to formally announce her as the new director of intercollegiate athletics at rutgers university. Julie? Reporter: Rutgers hired former tennessee volleyball coach julie hermann to clean up the athletic department, after that video surfaced showing former coach mike rice berating his players during practice. Now, a scathing report in "the new jersey star ledger" says hermann has a troubled past of her own. 15 women who say they were mistreated by hermann at the university of tennessee 16 years ago, are now speaking out to reporter craig wolff. They described a coach who was mean-spirited, in their view, who was demeaning, who called them names. Reporter:16 years ago, hermann reportedly quit after her players detailed those alleged abuses in a letter. Players say they gave it to school officials. Wolff says he confronted hermann with a copy of that letter. Her first response was, wow, that's not familiar to me. Reporter: And then there's this -- just two weeks ago, when she was named rutgers athletic director, a reportered about a video mentioned in a 1997 lawsuit, an assistant coach argued hermann fired her when she became pregnant. This is the video. Hermann is at the former employee's wedding. I hope it's good tonight, because I know you've been waiting awhile. But I hope you won't come back in february with any surprises, you know, because the office and all and it would be hard to have a baby in there. But when asked about that video -- there's a video? There's no video, trust me. Reporter: And following the "star ledger's" report, a new jersey state senator is now calling for hermann's resignation. And chris christie says he wants to ask the university about this report. David, still waiting for rutgers to comment.
