And next, did you know that only 14 people have ever been past 40 years? We wondered, what did these survivors have in common? There's a new documentary tracing their stories and here's abc's alex perez. Reporter: Northwest airlines flight 255 -- crashing just minutes after taking off from detroit's metro airport. Killing 156 and leaving behind one tiny 4-year-old miracle. Cecelia cichan lost her mother, father, and 6-year-old brother david in the crash. Now, 26 years later, that little girl is telling her story. I think about the accident every day. It's kind of hard not to think about it when I look in the mirror. I have visual scars -- Reporter: The new documentary, "sole survivor," follows cecelia and the lone survivors of three other deadly plane crashes. She has no memory of the crash, but cannot forget the moment she understood. I remember feeling angry and survivor's guilt. Why didn't my brother survive? Why didn't anybody? You know, why me? Reporter: It's believed cecelia survived because her mother shielded her. One of the reasons kids have a better chance of surviving crashes than adults. Also their bones are less brittle, more able to absorb impact. When it comes to the sole survivors of crashes, more than half are children. Cecelia is now cecelia crocker and happily married. She flies regularly and even got this tattoo of an airplane on her wrist. So many things, scars, were put on my body against my will and I decided to put this on my body for myself. Reporter: Turning tragedy into a life of triumph. Alex perez, abc news, detroit.
