'World News Tonight with David Muir' Grows from Year Ago Week in Total Viewers (+6) and Adults 18-49 (+3%)

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” drew 7.918 million Total Viewers, 1.714 million Adults 25-54 and 1.236 million Adults 18-49 for the week of May 2, 2016, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“World News Tonight” improved year to year (7.468 million and 1.203 million, respectively, on w/o 5/4/15) in Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%).

“World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers, leading “NBC Nightly News,” Tuesday (+292,000 – 7.937 million vs. 7.645 million – 5/3/16) and on Friday (+193,000 – 7.320 million vs. 7.127 million – 5/6/16). Tuesday’s win was during a big political night with the Indiana primary results influencing Donald Trump to become the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

“World News Tonight” decreased its margins with “NBC Nightly News” from the previous week by double digits in all key target demos: Total Viewers (-66% - 83,000 vs. 245,000), Adults 25-54 (-12% - 178,000 vs. 202,000) and Adults 18-49 (-40% – 95,000 vs. 159,000).  In fact, “World News Tonight” turned in its closest overall viewer performance in 2 months – since w/o 3/7/16.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+7,000 - 8.644 million vs. 8.637 million).  Growing for the 4th straight year, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 9 years – since the 2006-07 season.

“World News Tonight” is also narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by double digits (-35% - 268,000 vs. 411,000) for the 2nd-straight season, posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.

For the week, “World News Tonight” outdelivered the “CBS Evening News” by 1.243 million Total Viewers, by 205,000 Adults 25-54 and by 202,000 Adults 18-49.
