— -- You've gathered your reciepts, dusted off the calculator and sharpened a few pencils as you're getting ready to do your taxes. But what about the tax forms?

The IRS is going to save you a trip to the local post office to pick up the forms you'll need to get Uncle Sam his portion of your paycheck, and ABC News has compiled this helpful link page of the most commonly used forms. Clicking on the links will open a new browser window and take you to the IRS.gov website.

  • FORM 1040 and Instructions - Often referred to as "the long form" the 1040 is the standard tax filing document. Any full-time resident individual taxpayer can use the 1040 to file their 2006 taxes.
  • FORM 1040A and Instructions - Known as "the short form" this simplified tax form is limited to taxpayers who make less than $100,000 and take the standard deductions instead of itemizing.
  • FORM 1040EZ and Instructions - An even simpler tax form, nicknamed "the easy form," has just six sections and is only available to people who make less than $100,000, take a standard deduction and have adjustments to their income.
  • SCHEDULES A & B and Instructions - This is the form which taxpayers use to itemize deductions and report interest and ordinary dividends to the IRS.
  • SCHEDULE C and Instructions - Use this form to report profits or losses from a business you own or operate as a sole proprietor.
  • SCHEDULE D and Instructions - Use this form to report capital gains and losses.
  • FORM 8888 - This year the government is allowing you to direct deposit a tax refund to multiple accounts. This form allows you to specify up to three accounts and amounts you want deposited to each.
