Has Your Identity Been Stolen? Share Your Thoughts
July 12, 2005 — -- The fear of identity theft has risen sharply in the past few months as there have been more and more disclosures that people's personal information may have been compromised.
In the last few months alone, Americans have learned that their personal data could have been lost while being shipped from one place to another. Or a computer hacker might have stolen their credit and debit card numbers from a retailer. Or maybe people's personal information was provided to a fictitious company.
Now that millions of Americans are on the look out for any signs of identity theft, ABC News wants to talk to people who have actually had their identity stolen.
How was your identity "taken?"
Did someone apply for loans or credit cards in your name? Perhaps they tried to buy a car? Was your credit affected in the process?
Did you lose anything financially?
What did you have to do to get back your good name?
How did having your identity stolen affect you personally and your relationships with other people?
If you stopped the theft, are you still worried it could happen again?
Was the person who stole your identity ever found and if so, prosecuted?
We want to hear your story. If you've experienced any of these things, ABC News wants to hear from you. If you would like to share your story, fill out the form below. Please let us know if one of our ABC News producers can contact you to follow up.
