— -- “Lady Bird,” the directorial debut of actress Greta Gerwig, has received glowing reviews from critics. Gerwig said working with her film's stars was "exciting."

“There’s nothing more thrilling than watching great actors say things that you wrote and bring them to life,” she said today on "GMA."

As for directing, “It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done. I love it so much.”

Gerwig gives credit to everyone who helped make the film, which tells the story of California girl's senior year in high school. “It’s so amazing because I just know how much love everyone put into it who made it,” she said.

She also took a moment to thank the A-list artists who responded to her old-school request to use their hit 2002 tunes.

“I actually wrote a letter ‘cause I’m sort of old fashioned like that, so I wrote Dave Matthews a letter, Alanis Morissette a letter and Justin Timberlake a letter,” Gerwig said.

“It was all like, ‘Dear Mr. Timberlake,'” she said with a laugh. “They all were so generous and wonderful and said yes and I’m so grateful to them because it really makes the movie feel like it takes place in that time.”
