Elton John announces his mother's death, says he's 'in shock'
The singer says he's "in shock" after losing his mother.
— -- Elton John is grieving the loss of his mother, Sheila Farebrother.
The 70-year-old singer spoke about his mother's death on social media Monday.
"So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning. I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock," he wrote alongside a photo of the two smiling. "Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much."
John signed the post, "Love, Elton."
The legendary singer and his mother had recently reconciled after a falling out.
"Out of respect for my mother’s privacy, I have always shied away from speaking publicly about our relationship," John told London's Mirror in 2016. "However, I can say that we are now back in touch and have been so since my mother’s 90th birthday."
This past Mother's Day, he tweeted a photo posing with her that was captioned, "Dear Mum, Happy Mother's Day! So happy we are back in touch. Love, Elton xo #MothersDay"
John did not explain the cause of his mother's death.
